Hazel V. Gehring, 94, Wausau, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Marywood Center.

Hazel was born on September 8, 1916 in Royalton, Minnesota and moved to Wausau at the age of 8. She met her husband Melvin at Immanuel Baptist Church and they were married in 1937. Melvin passed away in 1975 at age 63.

Hazel was a "home-maker's" homemaker! She was an excellent seamstress, making many of her children's and grandchildren's clothing, knitting, crocheting, and taking-in several washings and ironings for others. She also made many Raggedy Ann's and Andy's for her grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed her flower garden with her Regal lilies being admired by neighbors and friends. Hazel may be the last of the breed that ironed underwear and socks (press on Mom).

Hazel is survived by her three children, Dale (Karen) Gehring, Ronald (Dorothy) Gehring, and Suzanne (Kenneth) Lewitzke, all from Wausau; her 11 grandchildren, Mark (Heather) Gehring, Lori (Scott) Lilly, Sherri (Jim) Wagner, Jim (Rebecca) Clemens, Terri (Craig) Novak, Troy Clemens, Robin (Scott) Hertting, Cheryl Lewitzke, Kristina (Francisco) Duran, Shawn (Leanne) Gehring, Nick (Amber) Gehring; 18 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother Howard "Bud" (Joan) Isaacson, Muskego.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Ira (Ruth) Isaacson, her sister, sister, Lorraine (Eldon) Riddle and her sister and best friend, Florence (Don) Buss.

Hazel was visited daily by family and friends. She often expressed her gratitude for the compassionate and competent care she received while living at the Marywood Center. She is now living in heaven with God, her Maker and Redeemer, safe and secure, sinless, and at peace.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 5100 Hummingbird Rd. Wausau. Rev. Dr. James Engle and Rev. Roger Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St. Wausau, and again from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the church.
