BARABOO, Wis. (AP) -- Rep. Fred Clark is apologizing for accidentally leaving a remark on a constituent's answering machine that said he felt like "smackin' her around" for hanging up on his campaign call.

The Democrat from Baraboo is challenging Republican Sen. Luther Olsen is a recall election. Clark called Sue Stapelman, whose answering machine was recording the call. Clark introduced himself and said he was challenging Olsen. Stapelman commented "Yeah, and isn't that a crime" and hung up. The machine was still recording when Clark told a campaign staffer that he felt like calling her back and "smackin' her around."

Clark tells the Baraboo News Republic (http://bit.ly/iTvXaZ ) he has called Stapelman and left a message apologizing. Clark is challenging Olsen for his vote on Gov. Walker's bill to restrict collective bargaining for most state workers.
