Rep. Seidel statement on Assembly passage of state budget
MADISON -- State Representative Donna Seidel (D-Wausau) released this statement after the Assembly passed the state budget.
"Republicans continued their assault on middle class families by rubberstamping Governor Walker's state budget. The impact of the decisions made in this budget will damage Wisconsin for years to come.
As I have said many times, budgets are all about choices. Despite giving Republicans several opportunities to make the right choices in the budget, every Democratic attempt was denied. Instead the Republicans rubberstamped a budget that raises taxes and fees, increases state spending, and raids segregated funds.
In order to meet the challenges facing our state head on, there must be shared sacrifice from everyone, not just working families. Unfortunately the Republicans turned their back on their constituents by cutting public services that people depend on in order to give tax breaks to large corporations.
Republicans can spin their budget al they want, but the truth is that this budget denies quality health care to thousands of men and women, cuts job training programs at technical colleges, takes away money from our public schools to give to private schools, and guts several other vital community programs. This budget is not in line with the values that have moved our state forward for generations."
