Java prices percolate but customers keep buying

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Several reports say the cost to buy a cup of coffee has been rising, cranking up the cash you need to shell out to get your daily caffeine fix.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, a one pound can of ground coffee sold for an average of just over $5 in April, about $1.50 more than it cost a year ago. But some java lovers say their morning cup of joe is a necessity and they're willing to pay up to help themselves wake up.

Rising prices haven't stopped traffic to the Vino Latte in Wausau, even though manager Angela Krembs said costs have gone up a little bit for her and their customers. They charge $1.50 for a cup of coffee and $9.99 for a 12-ounce bag, but she said sometimes it just tastes better when someone else brews it for you.
