(WAOW)-- Firecrackers, bottle rockets, and Roman candles may all sound like everyday fireworks, but did you know they require permits?
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, a commonly-used rule of thumb is that a permit is required if the device either explodes or leaves the ground.
If you want to get a permit keep in mind they are not available to minors and are only good for the date stated. Also, you can only use the permit within the boundaries of the issuing jurisdiction.
There may be more restrictions to follow depending on where you live, so be sure to check local guidelines.
