Wausau leaders break ground on $7.5 million apartment complex

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The Trolley Quarter Flats complex on the north side of Wausau is scheduled to open next spring. Local leaders said the project will be a spark for future downtown development.

Builders have plans to renovate the old trolley shed and add 40 apartments for people with low to mid-level incomes. They said they'll be able to preserve history while also improving the area for future generations.

"We want this community to be a welcoming community," said Wausau's 4th district alderperson Jim Brezinski. "We want it to be an affordable community and this helps provide that kind of an opportunity for folks who are here now or who may think of coming here in the future."

This project involved work from both the private and public sectors and Brezinski said it's the combination of the two that help make this project a reality. Project leaders said they'll be able to turn a blighted area into something suitable for families in the city.
