Brewers send RHP Mitre to Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) -- Sergio Mitre is headed back to the New York Yankees.

The right-hander was traded from Milwaukee to New York for cash on Wednesday, two days after the Brewers designated him for assignment. The deal was announced after the Yankees beat Milwaukee 5-2 Wednesday night.

Late in spring training, the Yankees sent Mitre to Milwaukee for reserve outfielder Chris Dickerson. Mitre went 0-1 with a 3.27 ERA in 22 appearances for the Brewers.

The move adds depth to New York's banged-up pitching staff, though the Yankees expect to soon get Bartolo Colon and Phil Hughes back from injuries.

Mitre can serve as a long man in relief or make a spot start. He pitched for the Yankees from 2009-10, going 3-6 with one save in 39 appearances, including 12 starts.
