HUDSON, Wis. (AP) -- A River Falls man says he didn't think a handgun was loaded when he pointed it at his friend and fired.
Joshua Kurer, 24, was hit in the chest Monday night and later died.
Anthony Velure, 26, was charged Wednesday with first-degree reckless homicide in St. Croix County.
Velure told police he didn't mean to harm his friend and that he assumed the gun was empty.
A criminal complaint says Velure removed six rounds of ammunition from the gun before pointing it at Kurer. Velure told investigators he was trying to get Kurer to go downtown with him, but he was reluctant to go.
The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram says Velure told police he and Kurer had aimed guns at each other and pulled the trigger at least a half dozen times in the past.
