Casey Anthony won't testify; defense rests

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The defense has rested in the Casey Anthony murder trial without her testifying about the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.

The central Florida mother did not take the witness stand as the defense wrapped up its case Thursday, leaving claims that Caylee accidentally drowned unsubstantiated. Prosecutors say Casey Anthony killed the toddler in June 2008 by covering her mouth with duct tape.

If convicted of first-degree murder, the 25-year-old could receive the death penalty.

Defense attorneys also never produced any witnesses that bolstered their claim that Anthony had been molested by her father as a child. They said she acted without apparent remorse in the weeks after Caylee's death because of emotional problems resulting from the alleged abuse.
