Johnson Controls sponsors research at UW schools

GLENDALE, Wis. (AP) -- Johnson Controls Inc. is providing research support to two University of Wisconsin campuses toward the study of batteries and other forms of energy storage.

The Milwaukee-based company said Thursday it will provide faculty and laboratory space at UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee. Company officials say the move will help educate more energy researchers and also ensure that Wisconsin remains a center of energy expertise.

Gov. Scott Walker and UW officials said they're grateful for the research help. Walker says efforts like these improve the state's reputation for research excellence, which helps attract even more companies.

A Johnson Controls spokeswoman says the company isn't disclosing how much it's investing in the initiative.

Johnson Controls makes battery units, auto parts and heating and cooling systems for large buildings.
