Minocqua businesses expect busy holiday weekend

MINOCQUA (WAOW)-- Minocqua tourism professionals say they consider this the busiest two weeks of the year, and business leaders expect a big rush.

Even though the tourism industry took a big hit with the recent economic downturn, chamber leaders say they remain optimistic.

Kim Baltus, Executive Director at the Minocqua Chamber of Commerce, says it's impossible to predict specific numbers, but the weekend should be good for the Northwoods.

"Gas prices are down a little bit, and I also think that people sometimes plan at the last minute," she says. "We had a lot of calls saying what do you have open and what can I find this weekend?"

Baltus says the chamber visitor center stays open around the clock for anyone looking for last-minute travel tips.
