Fourth of July celebration and fundraiser

TOWN OF MAINE (WAOW) -- They say one man's trash is another man's treasure, and in this case that treasure is an old barn.

"Just looking to restore and save history, for future generations enjoy," Peggy Griffin said.

Crowds flocked to the Independence Day Celebration and Car Show in the Town of Maine to celebrate the Fourth of July and raise money to fix up the 111 year-old round barn. Dennis and Peggy Griffin didn't want the worn out barn to go to waste, so it was picked up and moved to their historic preservation site nearly five years ago.

"Just fixing it up. Our main goal for the barn was just to save it from being fallen down and not being in existence at all, and now we're fixing it up more so people can come out and enjoy it for many years to come and future generations," Griffin said.

As part of the fundraiser Sunday at the Willow Springs Garden, people had the chance to see inside the barn. There was also a car show for the adults, and some fun for the kids, Including tractor rides, and a petting zoo. Griffin said once the barn is all fixed up she hopes residents will get good use out of it.

"And it's being restored to be used as a future event place for family gathering," Griffin said.

She said inside the barn there will also be a museum for people to get up close with animals, and learn about agriculture.

Money raised at the event will go towards renovations, and bringing new life to the old building.
