WISCONSIN RAPIDS (Press Release) - Three runs in their first at bat, coupled with six in their final at bat provided plenty of offense as the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters bested the Green Bay Bullfrogs 10-3 Monday afternoon.
After leading in a close game all day, the Rafters entered the eighth inning looking for some insurance for the ninth and left with a commanding seven run lead. Brandon Hohl took care of the insurance, belting his first home run to lead off the frame. After a walk, Josh Cyr belted a ball over the wall in straight away center for two more. Curtis Frisbie restarted the Rafters offense with a double. Frisbie stole third then came home on an RBI ground out off the bat of Justin Jirschele. Cody Koback doubled Jirschele home before Alex Edward brought Koback to the plate with his second RBI single of the night. In all, the Rafters racked up five hits as they sent ten to the plate.
Joie Dunyon capped a stellar evening for the Rafters bullpen and secured the win with a scoreless ninth inning, working around a lead-off error. Evan Stermer allowed just a single base-runner in one scoreless frame and Jacob Doyle held the Bullfrogs scoreless in the sixth and seventh, striking out a pair.
A three run first inning had the Rafters out front early. Koback walked and stole second base, then came home on Edward's first RBI knock. Hohl, who ended the night 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, doubled Edward to third. A ground out from Kyle Peterson and a pass ball set the Rafters up with their 3-0 early lead.
For the second straight night the Rafters starter left the game long before he was ready. Feeling discomfort in his left arm, Brian Hill came out after working three and two thirds innings of one run baseball. Michael Huckabay finished the fourth for Hill with a strike out. In his only full inning, Huckabay allowed two runs to the Bullfrogs but kept the lead intact and eventually picked up his second win of the season.
