Mayor won't resign over drunken driving citation

MARINETTE, Wis. (AP) -- The mayor of Marinette said Tuesday he made a mistake by getting behind the wheel of his car after having a few drinks at home Saturday.

But, Mayor Robert Harbick says he has no intention of resigning his office. The 68-year-old mayor was arrested Saturday afternoon in Marinette on suspicion of drunken driving. Police say Harbick hit a street light at a city intersection. He was released from jail Saturday night.

Harbick said in a statement that he violated a "rule of the road" and did not commit a crime.

The mayor apologized for embarrassing his family, friends, constituents and city employees.
