Officials: US missiles kill 3 in NW Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) -- Pakistani intelligence officials say a U.S. missile strike has killed at least three people in a tribal region along the Afghan border.

The two officials say a pair of missiles hit a compound Tuesday in Hurmaz village in the North Waziristan tribal region. Five people also were wounded.

North Waziristan is home to several militant groups engaged in battling Western forces across the border in Afghanistan. The region is a frequent target of American missile strikes.

The U.S. doesn't discuss the covert missile program. Pakistan officially opposes the strikes, but is believed to have secretly aided them in the past.

The intelligence officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record.
