Rhinelander makes plans to build training tower for local fire fighters

RHINELANDER (WAOW)-- Rhinelander fire department plans to turn an abandoned skate park into a training tower for local fire fighters.  The vacated lot on the corner of Phillip and Alban was secured by Fire Chief Terry Williams on Monday.

Both the fire and police departments are looking into funding options available for the project. Chief Williams said that there is no room in the budget and the department is depending on grants for support.

Williams stated that a training tower can cost anywhere from $10,000 to hundred of thousands depending on what type is chosen.

Fire officials emphasize that a training tower leads to better trained firefighters and a safer community.
