Ribs and Balloons; It's sensory overload at the Wausau Airport

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Straight from the sizzling grill--fall-off-the-bone ribs are the name of the game at Big Bull Falls BBQ Rib Fest this weekend. But that's not all. You can see dozens of balloons go up, up and away at Wausau's annual Balloon Rally and Glow.

The barbecue contest pits five rib cooks against each other for the ultimate prize, and people can vote for which rib is their favorite.

Andy Jepsen, also known as "Barbecue Andy," has been mastering the grill game for the past 30 years. "The sauces I'm pretty happy with. It's the rub that I'm constantly perfecting." He runs Barbecue Company, the defending rib champions at Wausau's fest.

Needless to say, it's a finger-licking good time.

"I think we hit just about every sensory available...there's just so much to do here," said Wausau Area Events Director Kari Rasmussen.

For the sights, just look up. You will see everything from kaleidoscope balloons to an octopus in the air over Wausau this weekend. And don't forget about the balloon glow.

So grab some grub, pull up a chair and take it all in. Summer is finally here, and the sights and sounds couldn't be better.
