Republicans release redistricting maps for Wisconsin

MADISON (AP) -- Republicans in control of the state Legislature say they are releasing maps they made redrawing political boundaries for the state's eight congressional districts and all 132 legislative seats.

The maps were to be released Friday afternoon.

The Legislature intends to vote on passing the maps next week.

Republicans control both houses of the Legislature and the governor's office during redistricting for the first time since the 1950s. Democrats were shut out of the process of drawing the maps and don't have the votes to stop their passage.

The last three times redistricting was taken up in Wisconsin, due to split political control, the Legislature and governor were unable to agree upon a plan and a federal court had to intervene and approve a map for state legislative districts.
