Co-founder of Culver's restaurants dies at age 88

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The co-founder of Culver's restaurants has died.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports George Culver died Thursday at the age of 88.

George Culver and his wife, Ruth, started their food service career by opening an A&W restaurant in Sauk City in 1961.

After years of ownership of multiple restaurants, he founded the first Culver's restaurant in 1984 with son, Craig, who today is chief executive of the company.

The chain has grown to 435 restaurants in 19 states. His wife, Ruth Culver, died in 2008.

In a statement, the company's president and chief operating officer, Phil Keiser, says George Culver never compromised on quality.
