Republican Party campaigning for fake Democrat

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The St. Croix County Republican Party is encouraging Republicans to vote for a fake Democratic candidate in Tuesday's Democratic primary.

Isaac Weix is a Republican running as a Democrat to force Tuesday's primary against true Democrat Shelly Moore. The winner will face incumbent Republican Sen. Sheila Harsdorf of River Falls on Aug. 9.

County GOP chairman Jesse Garza said Monday they decided to place phone calls and send emails to try to knock Moore out of the primary.

Because it's an open primary, Republicans can vote in the Democratic contests.

Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate says similar calls are being placed in at least two other districts where Republicans face recalls. He calls the move a dishonest trick by Republicans trying to steal the elections.
