MERRILL (WAOW) -- Add heading to the polls to the list of things you'll now need an I. D. to do. In the past, registered voters could give a name and address to make their voice heard, but now voters must present photo identification before receiving their ballot.
The new law will be used in next weeks recall elections, however won't be mandatory until February of 2012. But county officials say they are scared it is going to slow the voting process down.
"The electors are going to have to be a lot more patient. Especially in bigger elections. I can't imagine how it is going to slow things down in February," Lincoln County Clerk, Sheila Pudelko said.
Other changes include having to sign your name in a poll book. A change that will be mandatory at next weeks election.
But some registered voters think the changes are a step in the right direction.
"The world is changing so we have to change the laws to work with the way the world is going," Lori Beske said.
So next time you are headed out to the polls, remember to bring your wallet.
