MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Democrat Jessica King has defeated fake Democratic candidate John Buckstaff in the Wisconsin state Senate race representing Oshkosh and Fond du Lac.
King had 67 percent of Tuesday's vote, with 71 percent of precincts reporting in unofficial results.
The 35-year-old King will now take on incumbent Republican Sen. Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac in the Aug. 9 recall election for the 18th Senate District.
Hopper was one of six Republicans targeted for a recall after he supported Gov. Scott Walker's divisive plan taking away nearly all collective bargaining rights from most public workers.
The state Republican Party orchestrated placing the 81-year-old Buckstaff and five other Republicans on the ballot as Democrats to force the primaries, but they did not actively campaign.
