STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team recorded the nation's 18th-best GPA among NCAA Division III teams, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced recently.
As a team, UWSP women's basketball student-athletes compiled a 3.459 team GPA.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II, and III; NAIA; and junior college/community college teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2010-11 season is the 14th in which the WBCA has presented the standings.
On the court, UWSP finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 27-3, secured the conference regular season and postseason tournament titles, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The team rattled off a school-record 20-game win streak and became just the sixth team in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) history to post a perfect 16-0 conference record.
Case Western Reserve University finished as the nation's leader in GPA, posting a 3.609 team GPA. Fellow WIAC member UW-Superior finished sixth in the top 25 rankings.
