Rep. Duffy answers questions on debt, his tax-funded health plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WAOW) -- Lawmakers in Washington have been trying to come to an agreement to raise the debt ceiling, but it's been a slow process.

Rep. Sean Duffy (R-Wisconsin) is part of the debate on debt. Newsline 9 asked Duffy for his thoughts on the stalemate. His office recorded his answer by video and provided it to Newsline 9.

"I'm hopeful that we come to an agreement on the debt," said Duffy. "I think what we have to do is have both parties come together and find an agreement that doesn't just work for Republicans or Democrats. We have to find an agreement that is going to work for the American people."

Newsline 9 also asked Duffy if he would be willing to give up his taxpayer-funded insurance plan to save money.

"I have consistently voted to reduce my congressional budget," said Duffy. "But not only that, I've signed on to legislation to reduce congressional pay. So if we're asking all Americans to scale back, I think Congress and their budgets and their payments have to be on the table, too. And I have voted for that and signed legislation on that."
