All-Star festivities get under way with home run derby

Posted:

(WAOW) - The Northwoods League All-Star game will be held at Witter Park in Wisconsin Rapids Monday.

Sunday, the Rafters held events to get their fans into the all-star spirit.  Players were there to sign autographs and take pictures with fans and there was plenty for adults to do, as well as for the kids.

Despite temperatures hitting triple digits, people seemed to have fun and stuck around long enough to see some balls being mashed in the home run derby

The Rafters' Kyle Peterson took part in the derby in his home ballpark.

He put on quite a display early on, hitting 16 home runs in the first round, the most of any player, and the Witter Field crowd lets him know they appreciate the show.

Mankato's Shaun Cooper kept the pace, however in the head to head final round, Cooper hit 12 dingers. That was quite a mountain to climb for Peterson    as he fell just short, hitting a final round 10 home runs.
