Proposed mega dairy causes quite a stir

ADAMS, WI (WAOW) --  Two proposed mega dairies in Adams county are causing quite a stir.

Monday, the Department of Natural Resources held an informational session followed by a hearing to discuss the proposal of two mega dairies near the town of Coloma.

Richfield Dairy, which is owned by Milk Source, held an hour long question and answer period outlining the details of the dairies.  Roughly 500 people attended the session and all were allowed to ask questions.

Those who are opposed to the mega dairies voiced their concerns of water quality and quantity, as well as air quality and smell.

"We've gotten a lot of information from the people who live near the one is Rozendale and it hasn't been a good neighbor to them and were very worried that if they go in they aren't going to be a good neighbor here," Linda Kwiatkowski, property owner and opposed to mega dairies said.

But, those who support the mega dairies said that many of those concerns have already been thought of and taken care of.

"Every piece of dirt is given a very specific regiment for nutrient application and is watched for how it yields-they match all of that up so very tightly that there isn't any waste, there isn't' any over run," Mike North, mega dairy supporter said after the informational session.

No decisions have been made.
