WPS works to restore power across the state

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Crews have been working to restore power to everyone who's been surviving without electricity and air conditioning.

After Sunday night's storms, about 35,000 Wisconsin Public Service customers were left in the dark. That number went down to around 5,000 by Monday morning. WPS leaders dispatched crews to various parts of the area, keeping lines of communication open between workers.

"When the crews get dispatched to that location of the outage, they have the poles, the wire, everything on their way to heading over so they don't have to sit and wait or call back to get these items and wait," said Kelly Zagrzebski with WPS Community Relations.

By 8:15 p.m. on Monday, about 2,800 customers were still without power. WPS crews planned to restore power to most areas Monday evening into Tuesday morning.
