Tyler Dahms pleads not guilty to homicide, attempted homicide charges

PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW) -- 19-year-old Tyler Dahms, the young man accused of stabbing three people and killing one of them in Portage County, says he's not guilty.

Just over two months ago, police arrested Dahms in connection with the stabbing. He faces 8 charges, including murder, attempted murder, burglary and theft. The court granted Dahms and his attorneys an extension so they can decide if they want to make any motions in the case before it goes to trial. One motion authorities said may be considered is to move the trial to another county, or bring in jurors from somewhere else, to make sure they aren't prejudiced to the case.

"There may be additional details that might come out during the trial, if it goes to trial, that did not come out at the preliminary hearing which may or not explain how this incident wound up getting to the point it did," said Portage County Assistant District Attorney David Knaapen.

Authorities accuse Dahms of stabbing and killing Karen Dombrowski and attacking her husband and brother-in-law, stabbing them as well. Dahms could face life in prison if convicted of the crimes. Knaapen said no charges have been filed against the Dombrowskis in connection with this case.

Dahms will be back in court on August 22nd. The defense has until that time to decide if they want to make any motions in relation to the case.
