(CNN)--Gold prices get a boost from Europe's debt crisis and uncertainty over the U-S debt ceiling.
While stocks sold off sharply today, gold prices ended at a record high of 16-hundred, two-dollars an ounce.
Silver prices also moved higher, rising above 40-dollars an ounce for the first time since early May.
The U-S dollar gained versus the euro and oil prices fell more than two-percent Monday.
