APPLETON, Wis. (AP) -- A Fox Valley teenager has pleaded not guilty to abandoning his newborn daughter near a trash container behind a church.
Eighteen-year-old Benjamin LaMarche and the baby's mother, 17-year-old Nadia Zahirudin, are charged with felony child abandonment. Their baby was found in May behind Fox Valley Christian Fellowship. The child survived and was taken to a hospital.
LaMarche is scheduled to go to trial Sept. 14.
WLUK-TV reports both father and mother could spend up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Zahirudin has not entered a plea in her case.
