WAUSAU (WAOW) - The rescue dog that walked away after falling 110 feet into a rocky quarry is doing much better.
He visited us personally at Newsline 9.
The golden retriever named Brett survived the fall during Saturday's emergency response drill at Rib Mountain.
He suffered injuries to his face, liver and a rib. He underwent surgery Monday.
Brett is part of a 15 dog K-9 Emergency Response Team that responds free of charge to help search for missing persons and remains.
Michelle Metzner/K-9 Emergency Response Teams: "This accident really brought home the fact that we need to have funds aside so that if we're on a deployment or we're at a training exercise and there is an accident that our handlers don't have to worry about coming up front expenses."
Metzner calls Brett a "miracle dog."
Brett is scheduled for more liver blood work and surgery on his face.
The medical bills are expected to reach as much as $5,000.
