Wood County approves communication upgrade

WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) --  Wood County Board members approved a $750, 000 improvement plan to upgrade the counties emergency service radio communication.

The improvements include two communication towers and the use of a radio transmitter in the courthouse.

Dispatch Manager, Kelly Zenz welcomes the improvements.

"It's lives at stake. If we can't talk to them and they can't talk to us bad things can happens and they usually do," Zenz said.

The improvements will help first responders get to emergencies quicker.  Especially in the lower populated areas.

"It's an asset to everyone-taxpayers included.  We'll be able to talk to everybody better and we'll be able to have a better, safer response," Zenz said.

The use of the radio transmitter in the court house will allow deputies to hear and receive calls from dispatch.   The improvements will also help the county get ready for a change to a different bandwidth next year.

The two tower locations will be in the town of Sherry as well as Dexterville.  Those locations ensure full coverage throughout the county.
