Cooling centers to open in Stevens Point


STEVENS POINT (PRESS RELEASE)  -- Due to severe heat warning and the city wide power outages, county officials will be opening two cooling centers. 

One will be open at SPASH Stevens Point Area High School, 1201 N. Point Drive in Stevens Point. 

Another will be open at the Ben Franklin Junior High School at 2000 Polk Street in Stevens Point. 

The centers will be open Wednesday by noon with projected closure at 8:00 p.m.

The cooling centers will be open for the use of the general public, and individuals with medical conditions and concerns would be encouraged to utilize the centers for health and safety.

Pets will not be permitted in the cooling center.   Pets may be left at the Humane Society 3200 Iber Lane in Plover.  Pet owners should bring their crates or carriers if available to the Humane Society.
