Look out for food spoiling

WAUSAU (WAOW)--When the power goes out health department officials say any food left in the fridge can spoil in a matter of hours. They say foods like milk, eggs, and meat are particularly sensitive to temperature.

Health officials recommend putting food and drinks that can spoil into a cooler with some ice. If your power is out for an extended period, up to 24 hours, try to keep your refrigerator and freezer closed. However, if the inside of your refrigerator gets above 41 degrees or if it's questionable, then you should toss it.
