Victims named in Curtiss fire

CLARK COUNTY (PRESS RELEASE)  -- Investigation is continuing into the fatal house fire that killed two during the early morning hours of July 20th.

Shortly after midnight a 9-1-1 call was received of a house fire at 1241 N. Meridian Street in the Village of Curtiss.  Firefighters responded finding the front half of the house fully engulfed in flames.

Initial investigation is indicating that the fire started in the area of the front porch of the residence.

The victims were awakened by the odor of smoke and the family dog.

Melvin Lauersdorf, 79, was able to escape out a back door and summon a neighbor for help.  Mr. Lauersdorf's wife, Sandra Lauersdorf, 75, and daughter Debra Lauersdorf, 52, were not able to exit the residence and later located by firefighters inside the residence.

Life saving measures were attempted on Sandra and Debra but both were pronounced dead in the emergency room at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Investigation is continuing into this tragic incident.  Foul play is not suspected.
