Wis. DOJ warns consumers about gun training

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice is warning people who want to get permits to carry concealed weapons that no providers have been certified as of yet.

The department is working on the rules that will govern whether training offered meets requirements under the law.

DOJ official Brian O'Keefe said Friday that those won't be done until September or October, and until then anyone advertising that they meet DOJ requirements under the law are mistaken.

The law says courses must be conducted by national or state organizations that certifies firearms instructors or has certified instructors. Hunter safety courses would also qualify.

The DOJ is required to certify instructors and maintain a list of those who meet the requirements.
