Local volunteers pack meals for starving children

STEVENS POINT (WAOW)- Dehydrated soy, potato, vitamins and minerals are packaged in bags for nutritious meals.

Volunteers work in an assembly line to give hungry children food, something we might take for granted.

Those feelings shared by over 500 helpers in our surrounding area.

Jackson Soneckendorf volunteered by hand-packing individual bags.

"It makes me feel like maybe I should use those things that I get to help the other people so that they can maybe someday have the things that I have."

Feed My Starving Children are planing to ship over 200,000 servings of potato-based MannaPacks to children between ages seven to 12 months.

FMSC Member Sarah Danielson says potato-based meals are easier for the children to digest.

"It's specifically focused on kid's who are in the transition between breastfeeding and being able to eat solid food."

Potato growers statewide are leading the effort by donating their time and money to fill boxes to help nourish the bodies of young children world-wide.
