Wis. court upholds damages in gang rape case

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A state appeals court has upheld a $2 million-plus judgment for a woman who claims three Illinois men gang-raped her.

According to court documents, the woman alleged the three men drugged her in a Milwaukee bar in 2007. She says they gang-raped her for hours at a hotel.

Online court records don't show any criminal charges against the men, but a Milwaukee County judge awarded the woman $1.03 million in compensatory damages and $1.5 million in punitive damages in a civil suit.

The men argued on appeal the award was excessive and the judge didn't consider their wealth. But the 1st District Court of Appeals ruled the award was proper.

The men's attorney said he hadn't seen the ruling and had no immediate comment.
