State's only oil refinery sold

SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin's only oil refinery and its inventory is being sold for about $474 million.

Murphy Oil Co., of El Dorado, Ark., is selling the plant in Superior to an Indianapolis petroleum company. Calumet Specialty Products Partners will pay $214 for the refinery and $260 for the inventory. The plant processes about 45,000 barrels of oil a day from western Canada and produces fuel and asphalt products.

Murphy put the refinery up for sale a year ago to focus on its national chain of gas filling stations.

The Superior Daily Telegram says ( ) the refinery employs about 156 people and is the city's biggest industrial facility and employer with a $100 million economic impact in 2010.
