State of emergency declared in Portage County

STEVENS POINT (WAOW)-- Portage County leaders have declared a state of emergency to help cope with extensive storm damage costs.

County executive Patty Dreier says she's confident that time and resources spent to get the area back to normal will now be partially reimbursed by the state.

"It's sure good to know that when you incur a certain financial burden, that the state of Wisconsin can be there to help," Dreier said.

No official numbers have been released.  Stevens Point Mayor Andrew Halverson estimates the total cost of the storm damages will exceed $100,000.
