School construction won't impact academics

Posted:

RHINELANDER (WAOW)--The School District of Rhinelander's need for nearly $225,000 from its contingency fund will not impact the high school's renovation plans for students academically, according to Associate Principal David Ditzler.

"All of the classrooms will be ready to go.  The gym was never meant to be ready for the first day of school" Ditzler told Newsline 9.

The district is not setting a specific date for completing the gymnasium, however Ditzler said "it's going to be spectacular when it's done."

The high school's $8.5 million price tag is part of a wider $13 million investment in the district's facilities.  A media center will be added to the high school along with the remodeled athletic areas, cafeteria kitchen and other infrastructure improvements.

Rhinelander's school board established a contingency fund in case unexpected costs became apparent while in construction.

With remodeling at full-speed during the district's summer recess, school officials hold no reservations about necessary phases of the project being complete before students return this fall.

"The new cafeteria, if its not done on the very first day of school, it sure is going to be close" Ditzler said.

School resumes in Rhinelander on September 1st.
