Aspirus and North Central Health Care consolidate behavioral health services

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Leaders from Aspirus Wausau Hospital announce plans to consolidate their in-patient behavioral health program with services at North Central Health Care.

Leaders said both programs have seen fewer patients, reflecting a national trend towards out-patient care. Aspirus leaders said they usually average four patients a day in their 11 bed facility. About 20 employees currently work at the Aspirus unit.

"We work very closely with the North Central Health Care facility," said Aspirus Vice President of Patient Care. "They've actually managed our in-patient services since October of 2008. We've had this close relationship."

Hospital leaders said the North Central Health Care facility offers a wide variety of services, including out-patient care for about 300 patients. After the consolidation, North Central Health Care will continue to provide social workers and nurses for Aspirus programs.
