Flooding hits Portage, Wood counties

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Another round of severe storms has led to flooding in Portage and Wood counties.

Stevens Point received more than an inch of rain in less than an hour. Authorities had to close off several streets there to keep drivers from trying to drive through the high waters.

Police are reminding everyone to be careful.

"It was a rapid amount of rain in a short order of time but we were able to get it taken care of and get people home," said Sgt. Tom Zenner, Stevens Point Police Department.

A flood advisory lasted for both counties until 9:30 p.m. That advisory is in effect for Waupaca County until 11:30 p.m. Thursday and Shawano County until 1:30 a.m. Friday.
