Groups ramping up efforts in Republican recalls

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Groups working to recall six Republican state senators are ramping up their efforts in the days before the Aug. 9 election.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America spent $100,000 last week on a television ad against Republican Sen. Luther Olsen. They announced Friday they plan to spend another $150,000 to air an ad targeting Republican Sen. Alberta Darling and to extend the Olsen ad.

Democracy for America spokeswoman Levana Layendecker says they hope to spend another $250,000 before the end.

The two are also increasing phone calls, after already calling 115,000 people and planning to knock on another 50,000 doors.

A political action committee run by a coalition of unions, We Are Wisconsin, says they've already reached 1 million voters through calls and knocking on doors.
