MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus says the RNC is doing all it can to protect Gov. Scott Walker and incumbent GOP state senators targeted for recall from being "hijacked" by state employee unions.
Priebus told The Associated Press in an interview Friday that the RNC is "all in" with assisting the state party in get out the vote efforts. National unions are spending millions to assist Democrats, while independent groups like Club for Growth are assisting the Republicans.
He calls Walker a "rising star" in the Republican Party nationally and the RNC wants to do all it can to protect him.
But Priebus says the recalls are a battle between the growth of government and personal freedoms and not a referendum on Walker.
