MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard rescued six children and three adults from a sinking boat in Lake Michigan near Milwaukee.
Petty Officer Sam Burnside says he helped responded to the call at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday. He says the transom, where the motor is mounted on the back of the 18-foot runabout, had broken off and taken the motor with it.
He says the boat was taking on water.
He says someone on the boat called a family member who convinced a good Samaritan at a Milwaukee yacht club to help rescue them from the lake. The good Samaritan then provided their GPS coordinates to the Coast Guard so they could find them.
Burnside says everyone was wearing life jacket and no one was hurt.
