The Wausau East football team is in its first year under new head coach Steve Jung.
Jung takes over a team that went 1-8 last season, and he's trying to adjust the mindset of a program that's won two games in the last three seasons.
"I think one of the key areas that we're trying to address is the change the culture here," Jung said. "We've had three years of losing."
"I like him, he brings a lot of motivation and intensity to the team," said senior Brandon Luedke. "I think that will help us."
What will help change the culture is experience and talent on the field.
"We have a lot of seniors and a lot of kids that have played in the past year," Jung said. "With that good team leadership, we have fairly good team speed."
With the new regime comes a new option offense, and Coach Jung says he has the players to run it.
"Logan Taylor, he's going to help us spread the field, and people are going to have to respect that," Jung said. "And I think that's going to help our option running game."
Taylor is a junior, and combine him with junior quarterback Cole Nelson, and fans have reason for optimism.
"We like the fact that he can throw the ball well," Jung said. "And with Logan Taylor, he can go get the ball. And he's got nice speed. So that's a nice little combination for us."
"They kind of shined for us last year, so it's hope for the future as well as for this season to hopefully be successful for us," Luedke said.
