MADISON (AP) -- Democratic state Rep. Mark Pocan of Madison is expected to announce his candidacy Wednesday to replace Tammy Baldwin in Congress.
Pocan planned a 10 a.m. news conference to make what he called a "major announcement" regarding the race.
Baldwin launched her campaign for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday, opening the field for the 2nd Congressional District which includes the city of Madison and surrounding areas.
The 47-year-old Pocan has been in the state Assembly since 1998 and previously served as co-chair of the powerful budget-writing Joint Finance Committee.
He is one of several Democrats expected to vie for the seat that Baldwin has held for the past 13 years. Other seriously considering running include state Rep. Kelda Helen Roys and state Sen. Jon Erpenbach
