WAUSAU (WAOW) -- We're about three weeks away from Wausau's first Take Steps Walk for Crohn's and Colitis on October 1st.
Doctors said about 1.4 million people across the country have Crohn's or Colitis, but since an intestinal disease doesn't really make for good dinner table talk, it's one they said many suffer through alone. That's one of the reasons they organized this walk -- to give people the opportunity to talk about the diseases and raise money to look for a cure. Signing up for the walk doesn't cost a thing, but if you want you can join a group and raise money.
"We're going to fund a team that's called Team Believe, which is for GI Associates and we're willing to take anybody else who wants to come and join our team," said Christopher Young, who works at GI Associates. "You can also join your own team."
"They are going to have music and games for kids to play and just celebrate the achievements they did with raising awareness and the fundraising," said Laura Bolger, the Take Steps Walk Manager.
