EAU CLAIRE COUNTY (WQOW) - Tactical teams from two counties are called in after reports of a possible hostage situation.
Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer says the incident started around 6 p.m. Monday night. He says Chippewa County authorities called for their help after a man started sending threatening text messages from a trailer on Vance Drive in northern Eau Claire County. Sheriff Cramer says the man is involved in a custody battle with his wife. He was reportedly making statements that suggested he was thinking about committing suicide and taking others with him. It was determined that there were two other people in the trailer with him at the time. Due to their belief that the incident may be a hostage situation, tactical teams from Eau Claire County and Chippewa County were called to respond to the area.
Just before 11 p.m., authorities took the man into custody without incident and transported him to a hospital for a mental evaluation. No weapons were found in the home. Sheriff Cramer says after speaking with the two other people in the trailer, it was determined they were not threatened by the man.
